Keeping Active as a New Mother

Becoming a new mother is one of the greatest things in the world. Getting to know your child during this time and recovering from child birth can be very time consuming and you may find yourself not as active as you were before. It is important that you do stay active after you have your child for your health and happiness. Staying active can be difficult with a new baby but you can incorporate baby care with exercise.


Make sure that you do exercises as soon as your doctor tells you that you can get back to exercising. You will need to start off slow and do things like walking and light yoga. Even getting up and dancing with your baby will help you to keep active and make sure that you keep your strength up. If you have a local mommy group you may find that they offer classes to help postpartum mothers to stay active.

A great choice to stay active is to make sure that you purchase a quality jogging stroller. Jogging strollers allow you to secure the baby in safely while you jog and get much needed exercise. You can find many different varieties in jogging strollers including those jogging strollers made for rough terrain as well as jogging strollers that are made for multiples or siblings of a close age. Make sure that you consider adding a jogging stroller to help you keep active after you have your baby.

Going Places

Make sure that after your recovery from the baby being born that you start to go out more. Take your baby to visit family and friends and when your baby gets a little bit older make sure that you take your baby to different play dates so that you can get out of the house. Just getting out of the house at least once a week can help make sure that you remain active after your pregnancy and delivery.


Make sure that you eat enough food and water after you have your baby especially if you are breastfeeding. Eat lots of proteins for keeping your energy up and make sure that you eat foods high in vitamin C and other essential vitamins and nutrients. This will help you to have energy and be able to keep up with your child and stay active.
While staying active may seem difficult during this time you can do it with great exercise, going out and eating quality foods. Make sure that you take your time and ease into everything. Always talk to your doctor about when you should start exercising and when it would be ok for you to become active again. Remember that safety comes first before being active so always consult your doctor. After your doctor gives you the ok you can begin to get back to your active lifestyle.
